IPTV on a Smart TV

Whether your television can do this on its own depends on one thing: which operating system it runs. Samsung uses Tizen, LG uses webOS, and Sony, Philips, TCL and Hisense mostly use Android TV or Google TV. Each has its own store and its own app.

Which system does your television run?

This is the only question that matters, and it is not the same as the brand.

Brand System Store
Samsung Tizen Samsung App Store
LG webOS LG Content Store
Sony, Philips, TCL, Hisense Android TV / Google TV Google Play
Panasonic, older sets varies often none usable

The practical dividing line is roughly 2016. Sets from before that either cannot install anything at all, or run the app so slowly that changing channel becomes an exercise in patience.

When you need a small box instead

Put a small device on an HDMI port and the television becomes a screen. That is often the better answer, even for sets that technically could manage on their own:

  • Your TV is older than about 2016. No usable store, no way in.
  • Your TV is slow. A four-year-old television with a five-year-old processor is not going to get faster. A box costs less than replacing the set.
  • You want 4K and the TV cannot decode it well. The box takes over that work.

You buy the box separately — we do not sell hardware, so we have no interest in telling you that you need one when you do not.

What we do and do not do

We do not publish an app of our own. That is deliberate and it has one practical consequence: when we tell you which player works best on your Samsung, there is nothing in it for us either way.

What we do is walk you through the installation on your own device, over WhatsApp, at whatever hour you are actually sitting in front of the television. That is included in every plan.

One thing we will not do is ask you to download a file from a website or switch off a security setting. Everything comes from the official store on your device. If a provider ever asks you to do otherwise, that tells you something about them.

A note on support

Our support runs 24/7 in Dutch. Installation is largely screenshots and numbered steps, so in practice it works fine in English too — but the service runs in Dutch and you should know that before you order.

Ready to look at the price? That is on plans and pricing. Curious which channels from your own country are in there? International channels.

Installing IPTV on a Smart TV

  1. Find out which system your TV runsSamsung sets run Tizen, LG runs webOS, and most Sony, Philips, TCL and Hisense sets run Android TV or Google TV. If you are not sure, send us the brand and the year and we will tell you.
  2. Open the store on your TVSamsung App Store, LG Content Store or Google Play, depending on the brand. This is the built-in store on the television itself — you do not download anything from a website.
  3. Install a playerWhich player works best differs per platform. We tell you which one behaves best on your specific set. We do not publish an app of our own, so we have no reason to steer you towards anything.
  4. Log in and load the channel listEnter the details you received by email after ordering. The app then pulls in the channel list and the programme guide. The first load takes a few minutes; after that it opens straight into the channels.

Frequently asked questions

Does my Smart TV need a box?

Usually not. If your television is from roughly 2016 or later it runs a modern operating system and can install a player from its own store. Older sets often cannot, or they can but run so slowly that a small box on HDMI is simply nicer to use.

Which IPTV app should I use on Samsung or LG?

On Samsung you need a player built for Tizen, from the Samsung App Store. On LG you need one for webOS, from the LG Content Store. Apps that only exist for Android will not run on either. We tell you which one to pick for your specific model rather than publishing a list that ages badly.

Do I have to install a file from a website?

No, and you should be wary of any provider who asks you to. Everything comes from the official store on your own device, and you never need to switch off security settings.

My picture stutters. Is that the TV?

Nine times out of ten it is Wi-Fi rather than the television or the service. Connect the set with a network cable or use a powerline adapter. If it still happens on a wired connection, message us and we will look at it with you.

Can I watch on more than one device?

Ask us before you order, because the answer depends on the plan and we would rather give you the current answer in the chat than an outdated one on a web page.
